View Full Version : windowed mode
Hey stuff,
Dude u rock man, i used your guide and did the l2encdec and it worked great. I tried it normal, worked, then copied the l2.ini and the user.ini and it worked great. I can zoom, see far distances and it even seems to make the game run much better. I have a problem though, I still cant run the game windowed. Someone on another forum told me that if i do this with the two ini files that i can run the game windowed, so im not sure if thats the case or not. I just want to run windowed so i can do other things, so if someone can help me out here. It may just be that there is a button i press to window it or maybe im suppose to run the l2encdec.exe, but if that were the case it would have said so in your guide(it only specified to run patch.exe). Im a noob and im too scared to experiment cuz thats how u really f things up. Thx suff i know u busy man
Is there any way to increas the range at which the mobs spawn ? not the "landscape" range but the npc one.

To go to windowed mode you just press alt-return (also goes back to fullscreen with that if you're already windowed).
well i could already do that in the game. I got these two ini's so that i could get a smaller window, the one on the game really sucks cuz its a full size and if I play with it too much it will make my pc crash (critical error). Now that ive patched and put the ini's on i can zoom and see things great but i cant even do the alt enter window anymore. I was really hoping that the ini i pasted would give me a better windowed function but that might not be an option.
ps- ohh and stuff if u end up reading this nvm about the l2encdec.exe i remember what thats for now(the command prompt)
Hey its me again :(
Im kinda startn to wonder if there isnt a bug in the l2.ini file. I patched the system folder and pasted the l2.ini perfectly and I can see far distances (npcs and pc's, mobs) but i still cant use the windowed mode function. Im not sure if there was a special windowed mode that was enabled by this ini file or if it simply isnt working. I do know that i can no longer use the regular windowed function that the game offers. I even erased the l2encdec and patched.exe files along with the backup and did a check all on the udate server to restore to default(this works great by the way). And did the whole procedure over again to be sure i didnt screw up. I even pasted the user.ini before patching just to make sure that doing it after didnt alter the effect of the patch.exe. I restored again and pasted the user.ini by itself without the patch(cuz u dont have to for this ini) and i could zoom and window fine. Either there is a bug in the l2.ini or you're not suppose to be able to use the window function with this ini file. I dont know but i hope someone reads this and can help me out. I love the l2.ini but if i cant go windowed with it than its useless to me. Thanks, your friendly neighborhood newbie. :D
Few things control windowed mode:
StartupFullscreen (l2ini and option.ini)
UseWindowFrame (only l2.ini)
Resolutions can be important too.
Option.ini has priority over l2.ini
That's pretty much all. Unless you have some very strange gpu or broken windows, there should be no problem.
:D okay i think i finally gots it figured out.
Stuff i think your gonna hate me but here goes. I think that there is a bug in the l2.ini. My windows definately are not broke and I checked with different resolutions and i had the same results. The problem is this. For some reason you cannot alt-enter to go to windowed mode after you have patched and used the l2.ini. I found a solution for this delimma however. Run the game normally(not patched) and when your in, go ahead and put the game in windowed mode. Now log out and ur game should be saved windowed in the cofiguration settings. I looked in the ini and there isnt a specific setting for windowed mode. Im sure its in one of the ini's but I didnt see it in the l2.ini or the user.ini. Besides if it were in the user.ini u could just set it in the game options. Okay, now that your windowed you can run the game normally and you will have the windowless frame. Now there are a couple more problems you will run into. Because the frame is windowless you cant minimize it. You also cant right-click on the tab in the task bar and minimize it because that feature isnt supported by the client. Whats even worse is that you cant alt-tab to minimize either because like i said before the patched l2.ini either has a bug or wasnt equipped with this command. Bottom line, the l2.ini is great for the distance and all but the windowless frame is not cool. It conflicts with i.e. explorer because you cant minimize it and you have to go to the start menu to get to your desktop. It could be that peeps already had their client windowed for igwalker and thats why they never noticed this little bug, im not really sure. I just felt i had to post my findings for anyone else who may have had this problem and couldnt figure out the deal. And thanks stuff you do good things and im not at all criticizing your work.
blaaa i meant option ini not user ini
ok, omg i finally got all the shitty little details worked out. Dstuff was right it wasnt a bug in the ini he just didnt include the command for windows mode. You have to go into the options.ini and change the startupfullscreen value from true to false. This enables you to start up windowed. (I didnt see it at first cuz a couple of different people were telling me to change the viewport values. If someone tells you to do this do not try it. I knew these were the resolution values so i didnt do it. One person even told me to change them independently. Maybe its ok to do that but there is no telling what would happen if u tried to use an unrecognized resolution.). Now here is another thing that was getting me. If you start the game in a resolution and then change it you dont see the effect that the change has on the window unless you reset your game completely. Omg this was really trippn me out man. When u change the resolution to 800x600 or lower it not only gives you the full window but it appears to be much more stable. This is exactly what i needed. :D But i persevered and trusted in dstuff and eventually the knowledge came unto me. Im sorry for not figuring it out before i wrote the post above. Thx for your help d. mimmik
